Standing Tall

When Gavin wakes up in the morning he doesn't cry like he used to. He has made a habit of talking and playing with his 5 million "mamons". His room is right next to ours so I hear everything. I love to listen to him so I don't go in right away. Today I heard him grunting more than usual. I went in and this is what I found. Needless to say Gabriel had to lower the crib as soon as he got home.

I love my Binky!

So lately we have had a problem with Gavin sleeping the whole night in his crib. He was doing great, but then his pacifier started falling out of his mouth and he would start to cry. I found myself getting up 4 or 5 times a night just to pop it back in. I was so delirious that I found it easier to just put him in bed with us so when it popped out I could just reach over. I know this is a very bad habit so over the last few weeks Gabriel and I have been working diligently on getting him back in his crib. It has been a rough few weeks. I can't stand to hear him cry so the whole "cry it out" thing was torture. A friend recommended that I scatter 6 or 7 pacifiers in the crib so that when he wakes up at night he can find one on his own and pop it in his mouth. I tried this out and viola! my son now wakes up, finds the closest paci and goes back to sleep. I do hear him rustle around and whine a bit, but it only lasts a few minutes. This works awesome at nap time as well. I went in a bit ago to check on him and this is what I found. Guess he is holding on to one in case the one in his mouth falls out.

Peace, Love and Happiness

I found a few pictures on my camera that I needed to upload so I thought I would post them on the blog. Gavin is doing great. We had a follow up doctors appointment on Thursday and he has a clean bill of health. His urine culture was negative which means he didn't really have a UTI. The fever was most likely caused by a virus. We had a busy weekend. Gavin spent the day with his grandpa Joe while I went to my cousin Marissa's baby shower. Gabe and I celebrated V day on Sunday with a wonderful lunch and a movie. Enjoy the pics.

Go Bobcats!

My cousin Sarah is the first of all the grandchildren to actually go "away" to college. Yes, it is only San Marcos, but at least she left bexar county. I am so proud of her. Even though we miss her terribly I know she is having a blast away at college. She is a wonderful cousin and is more like an Aunt to Gavin. She bought him this adorable onsie that says, "someone at Texas State loves me." Gavin loves her too!

ER (and no George Clooney was not our Doctor)

It was bound to happen, Gavin had his first trip to the emergency room. He had been fighting a slight fever all day on Wednesday. He had a bit of a cough, but other than that he was perfectly happy. I called the doctor just to be on the safe side and they told me to keep giving him Tylenol and monitor his temp. He didn't eat much dinner and went down to bed at 8. I heard him rustling around in his crib around 1:30 am and went in to see if he was okay. I put my hand on his head and he was burning up. I woke up Gabe and we took his temp right away. My poor baby had 102.7 fever. Gabriel immediately got into "Daddy" mode and took control. We got ready and headed for the ER. As soon as the nursed took Gavin and started checking his vitals I lost it. You have to understand that this was my first time taking my baby to the ER and the first time he has really been sick. I started to feel nauseous and had to leave Gabriel with Gavin so I could go to the bathroom. I will spare you the gory details, but just put it this way I had to carry around a "puke bag" the rest of the night or should I say morning. After many tests, some poking (which again I had to leave the room for), and prodding they diagnosed Gavin with a Urinary Tract Infection. They are not very common in boys so after the infection clears we will have some tests done to see what caused it. It could be something or absolutely nothing. Let's hope for nothing.

We got home at 6:30 am and we were all exhausted. We went to sleep as soon as we got home and Gavin was fine the rest of the day. You would have never been able to tell that he spent the night in the hospital. He is on antibiotics and we have a follow up with his pediatrician next week.

I am sure that this is just the first of many coughs, fevers, broken bones, etc. that are bound to happen. Hopefully next time I will handle it a little better. Thank the Lord for my strong "Marine" husband.
